In 1995, Bodegas Torres celebrated its 125th Anniversary. On the occasion, they received the visit of H.M. King Juan Carlos I, who toured the vineyards and cellars and took an interest in all aspects of winemaking. During the tasting, he expressed his admiration for a red wine from the Santa Margarita de Agulladolç vineyard. On these high lands, presided over by a 12th century Romanesque hermitage, the family cultivates old vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The very fine llicorella (slate) soils produce a small harvest of an exceptional wine that is subsequently aged and refined in new oak barrels from the forests of Nevers (France). In 1997 the Torres family decided to bottle this Reserva Real separately, in honour of the memorable King’s visit, a vital and expressive testimony to the prestige of the great red wines of the Penedès.
