Special case “Jean Leon. A man, a time, a wine”

This special collection of Jean Leon’s 3 emblematic wines commemorates his extraordinary life story. From his departure from Catalonia at a very young age in search of a better life, to his professional career and his friendship with Hollywood superstars with all the glamour of his time. The box, in the form of a suitcase, is composed of 1) Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva: of very limited production and made only in Vintage:s when the Varieties: are exceptional. It is the first wine made mainly with the Cabernet Sauvignon variety in Spain and was chosen as the official wine at Ronald Reagan’s inauguration at the White House in 1981. Its name pays tribute to the restaurant founded by Jean Leon in Beverly Hills in the Golden Era of Hollywood. 2) Vinya Le Havre Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva: From the French port of Le Havre, Jean Leon embarked as a stowaway to the United States, where he was soon discovered by a sailor who decided to cover up his presence. This Reserva is a tribute to the silent complicity of a stranger who would change Jean Leon’s life forever. Made with Cabernet Sauvignon and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc, this limited production wine comes from a unique 16-hectare terroir christened with the same name. 3) Vinya Palau Merlot: From stowaway and cab driver in New York, to owner of one of the most successful restaurants in Hollywood and founder of a winery with his name. Jean Leon’s life is the eternal story of the American dream. Aware of his Origin:s, Vinya Palau is a tribute to his hometown of Santander, the starting point of a successful career. This single varietal, organic and limited production, comes from the ‘Vinya Palau’ vineyard. A small plot of 10 hectares where Merlot vines planted in 1991 are grown. 4) Vinya Gigi Chardonnay: Jean Leon’s charisma and discretion made him an accomplice to private anecdotes of movie stars, among whom he felt at home. Vintage:s later, and in honor of them, he made this organic wine, one of the first Chardonnays in Spain and the first to be fermented in barrels. It comes from a small and unique 5-hectare vineyard planted in 1967, which Jean Leon named after his daughter who also lends her name to the wine.
